Matthew Griffith is a second year Ph.D. student at UCLA in Higher Education and Organizational Change. His research centers on the efficacy of diversity and equity initiatives in change-resistant organizations and managing contemporary speech discourse. Before returning to school, Matt worked on various college access and campus climate issues in higher education, most recently as the Manager for Strategic Diversity Initiatives at the UC Office of President.

He is a proud product of Detroit Public Schools and the University of Michigan. Outside of school, Matt is a lover of podcasts, overly produced reality TV, and laughter.

In writing this statement, my objective is to be clear: I am not apolitical.

what brings me to this work?

I made the decision to pursue a career in higher education for one simple reason: I believe in the power of education to expand opportunity, facilitate self-agency, rewrite the injustices of the past. Therefore, I believe that education should be for all, with a duty for the radical inclusion of people who live on the margins.

Mobirise

As an undergraduate student, I would have been a protester ags. As a recent employee, I would be one of the many staff members trying to facilitate and support their demands with campus leaders And as a person, I am a Black man in America who sees the existence of the alt-right as a direct threat to my humanity.

I stand with the students.
