Affirmative action is staying in the news. There are two cases that are relitigating race-based admissions ( Harvard and UNC).
Some international students are experiencing issues with extending visas and travelling to their country of origin.
Due to the time restriction and the exploratory nature of this project, there is a significant amount of work to better understanding Black students’ experiences and needs. Here are ideas for other researchers, scholars, and organizers on this mission to make college campuses where Black lives really do matter.
Future studies can go beyond public and private distinctions and explore other institutional characteristics (i.e., political orientations, historical connections with slavery).
Reports have focused on institutional learning, but there need to be a greater focus on how (if at all) institutions have improved the lives of Black students. I implore others to explore how demands were have implemented.
Given the trauma associated with stereotype threat, microaggressions, and exclusion,there is an opportunity (and a deep need) to explore supporting Black mental health.
